French Silk Pie

This pie is simply heavenly.

Crust

25 vanilla wafers crushed
½ cup pecans chopped
¼ cup butter melted
  1. Combine and press into a 9-inch pie plate. Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes.

Filling

3.2 ounces bittersweet chocolate melted.
(Microwave for 1.5 minutes at 70%. Stir and let it finish melting without additional heat.)
¾ cup butter
1 cup sugar minus 1 tablespoon
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
  1. Melt chocolate and cool. Cream butter, sugar, and salt. Beat in cooled chocolate and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating 4 minutes after each. The secret is in beating thoroughly.
  2. Put in shell and chill. Garnish with whipped cream or substitute. Shaved chocolate strips and/or nuts may be placed on top of cream.
